Anger is a very powerful emotion.  Some say this feeling is capable of saving our lives, while others suggest that the mishandling of this emotion can lead to our own death.  (Williams & Williams, "Anger Kills").

Anger is a natural, universally-experienced emotion.  This is the feeling that says "Danger! Protect yourself!"  We experience anger when we feel like we have been violated in some way.  What we perceive as a violation may vary from person to person.  For some, getting stuck in a traffic jam, being delayed and arriving late to work is perceived as a violation.  The violation in this situation is that because traffic was not as we had planned, or not as it normally is, we have been violated.

Learning to deal with anger involves several steps:

1.  Understanding your triggers, and identifying the "core" reasons for your existing anger
2.  Developing new strategies to release anger without creating additional conflicts
3.  Learning to prevent anger-provoking situations in the first place
4.  Identifying ways to de-stress your life to prevent daily agitation
